Torrealba Signs within Division


We may not see Yorvit Torrealba for 162 games next season but we will see him enough.  Torrealba was close to signing a deal with the San Diego Padres today.  While Torrealba’s presence will be missed in the Rockies locker room, Colorado has enough depth to overcome his departure.

No Gregg, No Problem


Kevin Gregg decided money and being a closer was more important than winning.  You can’t blame a guy when more money is involved.  A player’s career can only last so long before he can no longer earn a major league paycheck.  However, Gregg’s decision to go to Toronto is puzzling.

Mora Signs with Rox


Colorado reached a deal with infielder Melvin Mora today.  His contract will be for one-year and be worth $1.275 million.  Mora played with the Baltimore Orioles last season and batted .260 with 8 HRs and 48 RBIs.  He primarily played third base for the Orioles but the Rockies might try Mora out at short and second also.

Rox Get ‘er Done


Last week the Rockies had four arbitration eligible players left to sign.  Today, the Rockies locked all four of them up.  Huston Street, Rafael Betancourt, Jason Hammel and Ryan Spilborghs all signed deals today that will bring them back to a team that won the Wild Card last season.

De La Rosa Signs; Four File for Arbitration


Jorge De La Rosa and the Rockies agreed on a one-year deal worth $5.6 million yesterday.  De La Rosa had a great season last year going 16-9 with a 4.38 ERA.  He had 193 K’s last season and helped stabilize the rotation after the announcement that Jeff Francis would miss the entire season.  De La Rosa will be a free agent next season.

Two Key Cogs Sign One-Year Deals


Clint Barmes and Taylor Buchholz avoided arbitration and agreed to one-year contracts with the Rockies today.  Barmes’ deal is worth $3.4 million and Buchholz will get $1.055 million.  Both players are expected to play huge roles for the Rockies this season.
