Inside the Game: 8/31/10

  • Clint Barmes made his second start since coming off the bereavement list and hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run in the second inning to tie the game at one.
  • Carlos Gonzalez knocked his 26th double tonight.  He is now tied with Tulo for the team lead.
  • Jason Giambi hit his eighth double of the season in the fourth.  He was thrown out at third on the very next batter.
  • Miguel Olivo made his sixth error of the season in the fifth trying to throw out the pitcher at second base.  His mistake did not lead to a run.  Olivo is tied for third in the NL for fewest errors.
  • CarGo led-off the sixth inning with a walk but was caught stealing second.  It was the seventh time this season he was thrown out stealing a base.
  • Giambi was hit by a pitch for the seventh time this season.  Esmil Rogers hit Jose Guillen in the seventh.
  • The eighth inning saw the good, the bad and the ugly.  Melvin Mora tied the game with a home run but the bullpen lost the game.  Matt Belisle surrendered a homer and Joe Beimel allowed a double that scored two runs.  Add in a throwing error, a wild pitch and threw walks.  Nine Giants came to the plate in the inning.

Rock Talk: Three-Man Race for the Triple Crown
