Rockies Report: The Amazing Ubaldo Jimenez

October 3rd, 2009 | by wutae3 |

Ubaldo Jimenez has become the de facto ace for the Colorado Rockies.  Aaron Cook entered the season as the Rockies ace but inconsistency and an injury led to Jimenez’s promotion.  Jimenez has become the anchor of the Rockies rotation that saw five pitchers reach double digit wins this season.  Now with the playoffs less than a week away, Jimenez will be called on to lead the Rockies into the NLDS.

Jimenez

Over Jimenez’s last eight starts, six have come against teams that were contending for a playoff spot in September.  He has a 3-3 record in the six starts against contending teams.  Last night against the Dodgers, Jimenez pitched six solid innings.  He allowed one run on only two hits.  His performance last night helped the Rockies move within on game of the Dodgers in the NL West.  The Rockies will need more starts like last night’s performance if the Rockies want to go deep into the playoffs.  To see stats on Jimenez’s five starts against contending teams, check out this site.
