One. That’s how many games the Rockies are behind the Dodgers in the NL West. 15 ½. That’s the number of games the Rockies trailed the Dodgers in the NL West on June 3rd. Two. The number of regular season games left in 2009. By now you all know the Rockies have a chance to win the NL West. How sweet would it be for this Rockies team? We don’t have to dream about it anymore. Colorado just needs to go out and win these last two games and they will live in immortality for the rest of their lives.

Jimenez

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched a great game and got out of a huge jam in the third inning. Jimenez was dominating, sans the third inning. For the first two innings, Jimenez was in control. However, in the third, he lost his command. He walked the bases loaded and allowed a run to score on a wild pitch. But he struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning unharmed. For the rest of the game, Jimenez was in fine form. He threw six innings and allowed one run on two hits with 10 strikeouts.

The Rockies had their chances offensively. They did just enough to win the game. In the first, the Rockies jumped out to an early two run lead. However, they left the bases loaded and were unable to put more runs on the board. Colorado finished 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. The big hit came in the seventh off Troy Tulowitzki’s bat. He crushed the ball over the left field wall for a two-run home run and a 4-1 lead.

Matt Daley struggled in the seventh with a three run lead but Rafael Betancourt and Huston Street both came in and shut the door on the Dodgers. Both pitchers were asked to get four outs to close out the game and they did just that to save the win for the Rockies.
