My Christmas List

November 29th, 2009 | by wutae3 |

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s officially time for the holiday season to begin.  For the next month, we will be inundated with commercials and advertisements trying to sucker us into buying the next big thing.  The same goes for the baseball world.  The Winter meetings begin December 7th in Indianapolis and teams will begin sorting through their list of potential free agents.

Now my Christmas list is short this season; some may even call it unrealistic.  (Note: it may not be politically correct to call it my Christmas list but we aren’t known to be politically correct here at The ‘Roll).  However, Santa has pulled off miracles before and I’m hoping that Dan O’Dowd can do it too (but I’m not holding my breath).

Craziness

Black Friday was a few days ago and while I’m not crazy enough to get up at 4 am and stand in the cold to buy a pair of $150 jeans for only $50.  However, I would stand in line for one player to sign.  My Christmas list includes only one name and its Matt Holliday.

And wouldn’t it be fitting to sign Holliday during the holiday season.  Now you may think I’m Black Friday crazy but hear me out.  The Rockies are one marquee player away from being a major contender.  Some may argue that a pitcher is more important.  That may be true but I don’t see the Rockies doling out the money or prospects for a top flight pitcher like Roy Halladay.

However, if the Rockies were to spend some money this offseason, I would go after a bat.  The Rockies were hurt during the postseason because they had too many left-handed bats and the Phillies knew that.  Enter Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and J.A. HappTroy Tulowitzki proved this season that he is a threat in the middle of the line-up.  However, with Chris Iannetta still struggling to find his grove at the plate and Garrett Atkins on his way out, the Rockies need another right-handed bat in the middle of the line-up.

Holliday has proven what a commodity he is and can be for a contender.  He would instantly make this line-up just as dangerous as the Phillies.  The good ‘ole days of Coors Canaveral would return and the fans would surely come out in droves to see this line-up knock the ball around the park.

The Slide

While I may be dreaming, can’t I be a kid for a day and wish for something magical.  The Monfort’s have said they want character guys in the clubhouse.  They have also said that they want to win.  Well signing Holliday would answer both those statements.  It would be a win-win situation for the owners, the team and the fans of this state.  So, before we all write this off as some out of this world proposition, let’s hope the Monfort’s realize that if they want to get back in the good graces of these fans, they make a splash and sign Holliday.
