All Quiet on the Winter Front

December 9th, 2009 | by wutae3 |

It has been quiet the past two days for the Rockies.  On Monday, Colorado found out that Rafael Betancourt would accept the Rockies salary arbitration and be back with the team in 2010.  Colorado has focused on its catching situation the past 48 hours.

News out of the Rockies camp is they want Yorvit Torrealba back.  It is being rumored that they offered him a two-year deal worth $5 million.  Representatives in Torrealba’s camp are asking for two-years for $5.5 million.  However, all signs point to Torrealba being back with the Rockies next season.

This is great news.  Torrealba already knows the pitching staff and he is a great team leader in the locker room.  He will start out as the backup catcher but will push Chris Iannetta is he starts to falter.  I don’t think there is another catching option out there that would be better for Torrealba.  Hopefully, everything works out and he’ll sign a deal with the Rox in the next few days.

MLB TV had a great interview with Jim Tracy today.  Tracy went over the current state of the Rockies and he feels the Rox should be contenders again next season.
