Rockies Report
December 14th, 2009 | by wutae3 |- The Rockies were finally able to agree to a three-year deal with Chris Iannetta worth $8.3 million. There is also a $5 million club option for 2013. The Rockies hope the new contract motivates Iannetta to new levels. Iannetta was disappointed with his production at the plate last season.
- Over the weekend, the Rockies non-tendered Garrett Atkins. He became a free agent and is free to sign with any team. The Baltimore Orioles are said to be interested in Atkins.
- Another non-tendered player that the Rockies are interested in is Matt Capps. The former Pirates closer is a free agent and has a history with manager Jim Tracy. Capps pitched under Tracy when they were both in Pittsburgh from 2006-2007.
- No news on the Yorvit Torrealba front. However, Torrealba will finally have his grievance hearing against the New York Mets on Wednesday. Torrealba is arguing that the Mets falsely diagnosed him as an injury risk which hurt his market value a few off-seasons ago. Torrealba was going to sign a three-year deal worth $14.4 million with the Mets before they backed out. News out of New York is the Mets are now interested in signing Torrealba if they can’t get a deal done with Bengie Molina.
- Long-time bullpen arm Ryan Speier signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals.
- Chuck Kniffin, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox pitching coach, resigned over the weekend so he could tend to his father.
